April Fool's Weekend at Skywalker Ranch

A good friend who's a sound engineer at Sony occupied Skywalker Sound for a week this spring, editing Jerry Goldsmith themes for a Super Audio CD release. He invited me up for a look around George Lucas' place. I didn't see JarJar Binks or any storm troopers,but there was Lake Ewok...

Skywalker Ranch is on Lucas Valley Road near Nicasio in central Marin county, CA. Itis home to Skywalker Sound, Lucasfilm Ltd., a massive store of props and costumes, and of course, George Lucas and his family.

It was a beautiful 80-degree day, and I couldn't stand the thought of spending the whole day in the studio, so I borrowed some wheels and a digital camera, and went on a brief expedition. It was Saturday, so not many folks were around -- everyone I met was extremely friendly, though. The ranch is breathtaking -- have a look!

Need a way around the ranch? Grab a maroon bike -- they're everywhere, and there for your convenience.
No ten speeds, though. You gotta work for it...
The Inn -- beautiful suites and excellent service for about $130 a night...
The Living Room in the Carl Larsson suite. Larsson was a Swedish folk artist, and the suite was stocked with volumes of his work.
