A poem left at the 3037 Memorial, Washington Square Park, San Francisco - Septmber 11, 2002

A Request

I came here to let it go
To say goodbye to 3037 lost souls
Still I try to find the answer why
I search and search
But cannot find

It's been a year
Still the hurt is deep inside
One cowardly act
And the world is forever changed

Think of the mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters
Friends, partners, lovers, sons and daughters
Go to your kin
Hold them, love them, tell them that you care
The blink of an eye
And they may not be there

On this day, I toss back a shot
In my mind, over and over again
I play Mr. Jimmy and the Star Spangled Banner
For that's how I cope with something I can never understand
